Ships’ Figureheads #25 of a 25 Card Series
On Feb. 27, 1861, the Black Prince was launched at Glasgow. She was one of the first British ironclads, being a sister ship to the Warrior. Her length was 380 feet, and her displacement 9,210 tons; while her engines were the largest then fitted to a man-of-war. Her figure-head represented the Black Prince, robed in medieval garments embroidered with the Royal badges of England and France.
