Zukinnari KabutoDate: 16th centuryCulture: JapaneseMedium: Iron, lacquer
This is one of the very first exposures I took of the cast iron spiral staircase in the Nurses’ Building on North Brother Island. It definitely came from that WOW moment when I got to the end of a hallway and discovered this rusting hulk, one of the coolest things left on the island. Even more than half a decade later, I still recall that feeling, and seeing this photo again brings it right back!
